New cooling tower launched at Atyrau refinery
“The cooling tower was built at the wastewater treatment plant of a delayed coking unit for the production of coke and sulfur at the Atyrau refinery. The facility was built in the framework of the Action Plan for the implementation of the reconstruction of the water supply and wastewater system of the plant, developed for 2016-2020. The commissioning of a new cooling tower will increase the reuse rate of purified water for the coke production process; to reduce the losses of recycled water in the water block and the load on the mechanical treatment plant, as well as on the installation of biological wastewater treatment, ”- reported in the department of public relations of the Atyrau refinery. Before the cooling tower was commissioned, the waste water of the delayed coking unit was discharged into the sewage system, then it was sent to the wastewater treatment plant of the plant, where they underwent a full treatment cycle, including biological wastewater treatment. With the commissioning of the new cooling tower, it is expected to reduce the discharge of industrial effluents by 325 thousand tons per year. At the same time, the planned volume of reduction in water consumption from the Ural River will be 500 thousand tons per year.
